Hunting

Hunting is a useful and beneficial wildlife management tool that ensures and maintains the health and abundance of game species and the balance of our natural resources. A number of species, from upland birds to big game animals can be found in the areas surrounding the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center. Hunting is a popular outdoor activity, therefore developing safe, responsible and knowledgeable hunters is a major focus of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's efforts at the Center.

Register for a free hunter safety class online at MyFWC.com/HunterSafety. Course listings for the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center are listed under Jefferson County. Once you complete your hunter safety certification, you become part of the largest group of contributors to conservation and wildlife management in America. Contributions from hunters, in the form of excise taxes paid on sporting firearms, ammunition and archery equipment, benefit every state and have generated over $5.6 billion for wildlife conservation since 1939. Some of these funds are used to enhance shooting sports activities at the Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center.

Youth Hunting Program of Florida

Hunting is an excellent way to spend quality time with friends and family in the great outdoors. It is an honored tradition passed on from one generation to the next. Most hunters receive their first introduction to hunting from family; others are introduced by friends. Still there are some who would like to learn more about hunting but need additional guidance. The Beau Turner Youth Conservation Center is proud to work with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Youth Hunting Program of Florida. The Youth Hunting Program of Florida sponsors introductory, instructive youth hunts that teach youth, and their accompanying adult, how to hunt safely, legally and ethically.

To join the Youth Hunting Program, you must first complete the hunter safety program and be 12 to 17 years old. Print the attached brochure, complete the application and submit it to the address listed on the form. As hunting opportunities become available, enrolled youth are contacted and encouraged to participate in a safe, fun, educational hunt.
