Maxxis Holy Roller Review
Hi everyone, welcome back to BTYCC. I hope you are doing great.
Today we're going to be looking at the new Maxxis Holy Roller tires for BMX bikes. Maxxis designed the holy roller tire to provide more traction than their previous model of the same name. This means that it will work better when riding over rough terrain or doing some off-road biking. It also has an aggressive tread pattern which should help with grip even during wet conditions.
What do you need to know about Maxxis Holy Roller tires?

With its wide knobby profile, this tire provides excellent cornering stability while maintaining good speed control. A smooth center rib design helps keep things stable under braking and acceleration. And finally, the unique "Holy" tread pattern offers maximum contact area for increased traction. How does this compare to my current tires?
If you currently run a pair of Maxxis Rival Pro II wheelsets, you may find yourself looking for something different after trying out the Holy Roller. These tires feature a wider footprint and larger knobs compared to the Rival Pro II. They offer similar levels of durability but much-improved handling characteristics.
For example, the Holy Roller can handle rougher surfaces like trails and rocks much easier than the Rival Pro II due to the extra width. On top of that, the Holy Roller is faster through turns thanks to its higher level of stiffness. So whether you prefer to shred down the streets or hit up the local trail, the Holy Roller is sure to deliver what you've been waiting for!
How do I install Maxxis Holy Roller tires?
To install the Maxxis Holy Roller, remove the valve stem cap from both ends of the tube. Then, place the bead over the nipple and push firmly until seated. Next, tighten the clamp by turning clockwise. Once tightened, turn off the pump and slowly inflate the tire. When fully inflated, check the air pressure gauge to ensure proper inflation. If not properly inflated, repeat steps 3 & 4. Finally, replace the valve stem caps and enjoy riding!
Are there any pros/cons to using this type of tire?
Pros:
- Great traction on dirt and gravel trails.
- Low rolling resistance for smooth pedaling.
- Quiet and comfortable ride.
- Long-lasting tread life.
- Available in 26", 27", and 29".
Cons:
- The side walls are very thin.
What should I consider before buying this product?
Size
This size will fit 20-inch rims with a minimum rim depth of 5mm. It also fits 24-inch rims with a 6 mm minimum rim depth. If you have a 22-inch wheel, you can use this tire as long as you have a minimum rim depth of 7mm. You cannot use this tire on 23-inch wheels because they don't have enough clearance between the edge of the tire and the frame.
Weight
It weighs around 820 grams, making it suitable for lighter riders who want more grip without sacrificing too much weight. However, heavier riders might struggle when climbing hills.
Tread Pattern
There isn't really anything special about the tread pattern other than being knobbier than usual. Knob sizes vary depending on the model, so be careful when choosing tires based on their appearance alone.
Durability
As mentioned earlier, the Holy Roller has no punctures resistant layer, unlike some other models. Therefore, we recommend checking your tire's warranty period before purchasing them. Also, make sure you get a good quality sealant to keep water away from the inner surface of the tire.
Features
As far as features go, the Holy Roller comes equipped with an internal tubeless system. The only downside is that you need to buy additional tubes separately. Other than that, there aren't any major differences between this tire and others.
FAQS:
How much weight capacity does this tire offer?
This tire weighs around 1.3 pounds per square inch. That makes it one of the lightest tires available today. You could probably get away with using these tires on any bike weighing less than 20 lbs. though heavier ones might require additional support.
Can I run this tire on my road bike?
Yes! In fact, many people choose to use them on their road bikes because they don't like how heavy most cross country tires feel. However, keep in mind that there may be limitations regarding what size rim you can install these tires onto. Some rims only allow certain widths of tires to fit inside of them.
Is this tire compatible with your bike frame size?
The Maxxis Holy Roller has an overall diameter of 28mm which means it's designed specifically for smaller frames such as 650b, 27.5", and 29er bicycles. It also features a slightly lower profile, so it won't rub against the chainstays when pedaling hard. This allows you to ride longer distances without getting sore legs. The max load rating is 300 lb / 136 kg.
Can I ride around town on these tires?
Absolutely! Although we recommend keeping these tires mounted on your BMX bike if you plan on taking long rides outside of the city limits. Otherwise, you'll likely want to invest in some good-quality clinchers instead.
Will these tires last long?
We think so! These are durable tires made out of high-quality materials. They're built to withstand all kinds of abuse while still looking great after years of wear. We guarantee our products 100% and stand behind every single pair sold.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a lightweight, affordable option for commuting or touring, then look no further. With its low rolling resistance, durability, and affordability, the Maxxis Holy Roller is sure to become a favorite among cyclists everywhere.
I bought 2 sets of this wheelset, and I am pleased with them. They were shipped fast and well packed. I would definitely buy another set of those wheelsets.
